A bleach works was once situated along the river in Tigers Clough which operated at the start of the industrial revolution and was notable as an early adopter of the Calendar machine.
Various stone structures remain today, mostly hidden in the trees and undergrowth. One easy to spot feature is the breached dam which held back the water reservoir used by the works.
Knollshaw is an interesting area both for its geological and natural features, wildlife and waterfalls but also for its reference in historic documents.
