An often difficult waterfall on Hatch Brook above Brinscall.
The waterfall on Hatch Brook was quite spectacular at one time but suffered due to heavy rain a good few years ago when a good quantity of loose rock was thrown down. The fall was mostly obscured with rocks and debris and detritus. A photo here shows the view up to the waterfall in 2008 with much of the rock still in-situ.
Today the area just below the waterfall is much cleared of rubble (which can be seen down in the stream below), although like me you’ll still find the waterfall often dry-ish. The ravine and woodland around the waterfall is still an impressive scene though difficult to reach from the main footpaths. The Hatch Brook waterfall can be glimpsed from partially from above by the casual walker and reaching the foot of the falls is much nicer today than my visit in 2008 but might be tedious for the less enthusiastic.
The safest route is clearly from below although I have taken the short route which is a short, sharp, shock - but I wouldn’t advise it.
